St. Jude Fundraising 5K Walk set for Saturday, 19 Nov 2011

This is a personal note because I just want to make sure you are aware of a great event for a life-saving cause on Saturday, November 19, 2011.  On that day, teams in Orlando and Tampa and in more than 78 other communities across the country will join together to participate in a 5K walk to raise money for the children of St. Jude*.

Registration is free for this family-friendly, 5K walking event taking place in more than 80 communities across the country.  This event is a fun and easy way for you, your families, friends, and co-workers to come together to raise funds to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital continue its mission of finding cures that save lives.  Your participation helps provide lifesaving treatment and world-class patient care to patients in the fight against cancer – at St. Jude and in communities everywhere.

In Orlando, the walk will start at 8:00 AM (walker check-in opens at 7:00 AM) on 19 November at Lake Eola Park, 195 North Rosalind Ave., Orlando, FL 32801.  In Tampa, the walk will start at 9:00 AM (walker check-in opens at 8:00 AM) on 19 November at USF Track & Field Stadium, 4202 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33620.

There are many ways you can help: sponsor, establish a committee to spread the word and organize for the event, volunteer to walk, or start a team for you to captain.  I went to “www.givethankswalk.org” and registered to walk, made an initial small donation, and volunteered to captain a team.  I’m going to get as many of my family members and their friends as possible to walk on the Steve Gordon team – the Flash team — and donate: “https://waystohelp.stjude.org/sjVPortal/public/displayUserPage.do?userId… .

If you are so inclined, please feel free to start your own teams, just sponsor someone else with donations of any amount, serve on a committee, walk, or just show up to see if this old guy can make it through the 5K .

Event Sponsors: Sponsorship opportunities are available at both the local and national level and can be tailored to fit your company’s needs for both community exposure and employee engagement.  The Give thanks. Walk. is a perfect opportunity to show your clients and your employees that you care about your community.

Volunteer Committees: Local Give thanks. Walk. committees are looking for passionate, hard-working, connected St. Jude supporters to spearhead team recruitment, recruit sponsors, and help coordinate event logistics.

Team Captains: Team captains are the key to success.  You can support the Give thanks. Walk. by forming a team and recruiting your friends and family to join you on your team or form their own.  Registration is completely free, and walkers can earn exciting prizes based on their fundraising level.  Sign up today at www.givethankswalk.org

Walk Day Volunteers: Volunteers will be in high demand on the day of the event to assist with the walker check-in, course monitoring and event set-up.
