Partnership IV B Office Building Purchase Completed

The State of Florida and UCF closed the $19.1 million purchase of the 123,391 SF Resource Square II office building from Banyan Capital on October 31, 2017. Closing this transaction culminates a 4 year effort by the Metro Orlando Defense Task Force (MODTF) to move all Team Orlando military and civilian Modeling, Simulation and Training (MS&T) staff out of leased commercial office space. The MODTF was formed in 2012 by key Central Florida community stakeholders to promote, protect and grow the area’s MS&T business and mitigate any threat from future rounds of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). Team Orlando was at risk due to reliance on high cost commercial real estate due to base overcrowding. This acquisition will allow UCF and Team Orlando to begin the process of moving military and civilian personnel into the building. This purchase was funded by a series of appropriations in the 2013-2015 state legislative sessions totaling $42 million. UCF acquired the 83,000 SF SAIC building in February 2016 as the first step in meeting the objective of acquiring 200,000 SF of additional Partnership office space. This latest acquisition will bring the total acquired office space to just over 207,000 SF. The remainder of the appropriated funds are budgeted for build out and security enhancements.  We would like to thank the Governor, the Florida Cabinet, the State Legislature and the Florida Defense Support Task Force (FDSTF) for their outstanding support.

The MODTF is a terrific example of what can be accomplished when key organizations from a community come together and collaborate on an important goal. The task force is chaired by NCS, who received tremendous financial, leadership and staff support from its partners:

Orlando Economic Partnership
 UCF
 The Corridor
Orange County Mayor’s Office and County Commission
City of Orlando Mayor’s Office and City Commission
 Central Florida Research Park

The Task Force will now focus on growing the base business with the military and expanding modeling and simulation technology into commercial vertical markets.
