Invitation to Participate in SISO/NASA Distributed Simulation Exercise

M&S Industrial Organizations:

The Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO),  in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is contacting universities to solicit participation as competitive teams, as well as industrial organizations willing to offer technical support to those teams in a distributed computer simulation event.  This event will be held in conjunction with SISO and its Space Community Forum at the joint SISO/SCS conference the week of April 4-9, 2011 in Boston, MA.

The goal of the competitive event is to have students experience: a) distributed simulation interoperability using the state-of-the-practice standard (i.e. HLA Evolved, IEEE 1516-2010, available via http://shop.ieee.org) and associated distributed simulation tools and techniques; and b) the use of modeling and simulation in collaborative environments in supporting NASA mission analysis, planning and operations.  Students will learn to join and operate a distributed simulation where their simulated systems can interact with other students’ systems and the simulated lunar environment; and they will also have the opportunity to use professional development tools provided by leading simulation vendors.

Opportunities for academic teams and industrial support groups to join in this program are still available.  Preliminary expository information is provided in the attached announcement and briefing. Additional information regarding the competition’s rules-of-engagement and technical environment are being prepared and will be released soon.  Please poll your constituencies to inquire if academic or industrial members of your organization are interested in participating as: a) academic team competitors or b) industry supporting competitive student teams.  If so, please encourage them to contact one of the undersigned, or to attend the working meeting planned for this event at the Fall SISO SIW (www.sisostds.org/index.php?tg=articles&idx=More&article=572&topics=133).
