PLEASE TAKE ACTION:

We urge you to please read the attached flier, then post the information on your web site, email it to your mailing lists, include it in your newsletter, or do whatever you feel you can to get the word out fast about this opportunity to help your friends and colleagues that may be out of work. And please feel free to forward this to other organizations that may know how to access to displaced workers in need of training. The spots are very limited, but given the short time frame, we need to get the word out as broadly as possible. It is also possible that we will have additional funding for more training in the near future.

The training dates are:

BACKGROUND:

Traditional print and broadcast journalists and advertising professionals have been hit with the unprecidented double-impact of an economic crisis coinciding with a digital media/Internet technology tsunami. Together, they have upended the business models of newspapers and television broadcast outlets alike, with readers, viewers and advertisers moving online, and taking their eyeballs and ad dollars with them. This has resulted in job eliminations and contiuing staff reductions across a number of traditional media industrties. As one example, acquiring a combination of digital media skills can help print journalists become multimedia “backpack journalists” …”capable of operating a video camera, performing a TV standup, telling a print story, writing a broadcast script, creating a Flash animation, compiling a photo gallery, grabbing an audio clip and muckraking masterfully” to quote Martha Stone in the Online Journalism Review. The two courses we’re presently offering represent good steps in that direction.

These courses are being offered by:

The Employ Florida Banner Center for Digital Media Seminole Community College Center for Economic Development, in partnership with Orlando Tech (see training location below)

These courses are being offered with the funding, support and encouragement of:
Workforce Florida, Inc.
Employ Florida Marketplace
