Job Summary:

You will be located in a newly constructed state of the art facility on the campus of the newly constructed VA Medical Center in Orlando, FL.  This region is becoming increasingly known as the hub for research in healthcare science and technology.  The current Orlando VA Medical Center has been approved to construct a new state-of-the-art medical center, covering 1.158 million square feet and will include a 120 bed nursing home, 134 bed hospital and a large multi-specialty outpatient clinic.  The SimLEARN National Center and the Orlando VA Medical Center are located in ‘Medical City’, a complex of innovative medical clinical and research complexes in Orlando.  The program will have affiliations with a number of clinical academic programs.  Orlando, FL is, without doubt, the theme-park capital of the world, and Orlando’s most famous tourist attraction is Walt Disney World.  The vast Disney complex incorporates a host of state-of-the art theme parks, with magical characters and thrilling rides, and is located on the southwestern outskirts of Orlando.  Orlando is a great city for families with children (or parents) of all ages.  There is truly something for everyone in Orlando.  Away from the theme parks and major tourism in Orlando, you will find much history and impressive museums.  Florida has NO State Income Tax.



Major Duties:

You are invited to consider this opportunity to be the national clinical leader for the next generation of medical education and healthcare in a new state-of-the-art facility in Orlando, Florida.  As the Medical Director for the SimLEARN (Simulation – Learning Education and Research Network) Program, you’ll work directly with the Veterans Health Administration’s Chief Officer for Patient Care Services and the Chief Learning Officer, both located at the VA’s headquarters in Washington, DC.  You will be a national clinical expert for the SimLEARN National Simulation Center (the ‘Center’) and the National Simulation Program and work closely as a member of the SimLEARN VHA leadership team.

The National Medical Director, the National Nursing Program Director, and the National Program Manager will work collaborative to develop a state-of-the-art facility, as well as national programs for training staff physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary care teams, leading the medical design, implementation and evaluation of simulation education initiatives through the use of technology-based training and assessment.

You will be part of a SimLEARN interdisciplinary leadership team that develops clinical strategic and operation planning initiatives and identifies opportunities for improvement, innovation and research.  The team will manage the deployment of clinical simulation technology and curricula and provide the clinical leadership required to ensure services are delivered within scope, timeliness, quality, and client satisfaction guidelines.  The SimLEARN interdisciplinary leadership team will be supported by clinical and education staff to assist in the execution of the national strategy.

Serves as the medical lead to senior VHA leadership for the SimLEARN program on policies and procedures pertaining to the design, development and delivery of simulation initiatives.  Serves as the medical champion advisor to VHA SimLEARN for developing,  promoting and supporting the clinical simulation training, education, and research initiatives consistent with the strategic vision.  Support the VHA SimLEARN Program Manager to develop and operate the SimLEARN program to provide system-wide simulation resources to the VHA.  Provide clinical program assessment and analysis for operational decisions and identify opportunities for improvement of the SimLEARN program and services.  Provides financial management and coordination. 





Qualifications:

 

Must be a U.S. Citizen of the United States.

Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Must be Board Eligible/Board Certified Physician.

Direct leadership related to clinical simulation in the Federal system, private sector, or international community.

Record of academic achievements and scholarly activities consistent with eligibility for an academic rank within VHA senior leadership.

Expertise in research and evaluation methodologies for assessment of education outcomes and program evaluation.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.  Applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  Applicants can verify accreditation at the following website:

You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in Licensure for this position. In some cases, these may be substituted for experience and education.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
