Cognitive Rehabilitation Clinical Trial Award

The Fiscal Year 2010 (FY 10) Defense Appropriations Act provides
approximately $8.5M to fund two to three Clinical Trial Award
applications focused on Cognitive Rehabilitative Therapy for members and
former members of the armed forces. These trials will be funded through
the FY 10 Psychological Health/Traumatic Brain Injury (PH/TBI) Research
Program, administered through the US Army Medical Research and Materiel
Command Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs
(CDMRP).
Funding of applications received in response to this Program
Announcement/Funding Opportunity is contingent on the availability of
Federal funds for this program and on the quality and number of
applications received.
The Program Announcement and Application Instructions for the FY 10
PH/TBI Research Program’s Cognitive Rehabilitation Clinical Trial Award
are anticipated to be posted via Grants.gov in May 2010.

Cognitive Rehabilitation Clinical Trial Award

Independent investigator at or above the level of Assistant Professor
(or equivalent).  Award is intended to support the rapid implementation of clinical trials to assess the efficacy of cognitive rehabilitative therapy for members or former members of the Armed Forces.
Collaboration with military researchers and clinicians is encouraged.
Use of military or veteran populations who have been diagnosed with a
traumatic brain injury (TBI) incurred in the line of duty in Operation
Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom is mandatory.

Focus areas for the Cognitive Rehabilitative Therapy Trials could
include the impact of one or more of the following:

cumulative concussions,
mild TBI (mTBI) and chronic symptoms,
cognitive rehabilitation in chronic mTBI,
use of information technology devices (PDAs, computers, etc.),
the use of robotics, nutritional supplements, and timing of
out/inpatient rehabilitation, and strategies for polytrauma.

Maximum funding of $2,000,000.00 for direct costs (plus indirect costs)
Period of performance cannot exceed 4 years

Rehabilitation Clinical Trial Award focus areas will be included in the
program announcement when it is released.

A pre-application is required and must be submitted through the CDMRP
eReceipt website (https://cdmrp.org) prior to proposal submission.
Proposals must be submitted through the federal government’s
single-entry portal, Grants.gov. Requests for email notification of the
