Luminar Technologies Inc. is scaling its local manufacturing in preparation for when its sensors will start appearing on self-driving Volvos in 2022.
The Orlando-based tech unicorn since last year has been relocating its operations from Research Parkway in Orlando to its other existing facility on Discovery Drive, the firm told Orlando Business Journal. This move enables Luminar to increase its manufacturing capabilities as it gears up to work with big players in the auto industry, which likely will lead to new jobs.
In fact, Luminar (Nasdaq: LAZR) has 17 open Orlando jobs listed on its website, including engineer and data scientist positions. Luminar declined to discuss how many people it may hire in Orlando this year.
