Space Perspective Inc. took off with a $40 million Series A round for its planned high-altitude balloon trips.
Jackson, Wyoming-based venture capital firm Prime Movers Lab led the investment round for the Kenned Space Center-based company. The investment will help fund the firm’s mission to conduct the first commercial space balloon flight in 2024.
Space Perspective targets high-end customers who may want to hold a corporate event or small wedding while peering down at Earth, or people who simply want to take part in the rare experience of space travel. Passengers will ride in a capsule outfitted with reclining seats, a bathroom and a bar.
The firm this year began taking reservations for its luxury balloon flights. Each six-hour trip will take up to eight passengers 20 miles above Earth’s surface, providing 360-degree views of the planet.
