Old Dominion University – Modeling, Simulation & Visualization Engineering

Modeling, Simulation & Visualization Engineering Program (MSVE) at Old Dominion University (ODU) offers the only undergraduate four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Modeling and Simulation Engineering. Our program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The MSVE department’s undergraduate faculty to student ratio of 10 to 1 and average class size of 17 allows us to provide personalized individual attention to help ensure student success. Our students have the advantage of being part of a small program which gives them greater opportunity to participate in undergraduate research and internships. Our diverse student body comes to us with a wide range of talents and interests making for a dynamic collaborative learning environment

The department’s academic programs are coupled with a strong departmental research program conducted jointly with researchers from the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC). Research activities range from investigation of fundamental modeling and simulation (M&S) methodologies and technologies to applications of M&S in medicine and health care, virtual reality, serious gaming, transportation, education, science, engineering, and business.

Our hands on facilities include the Undergraduate Projects and Research Laboratory, Medical Simulations Laboratory, Applied M&S Research Laboratory, Collaborative Autonomous Systems Laboratory, The CAVE (CAVE Automated Virtual Environment), and Advanced Engineering Environments Laboratory. Our state of the art technology classrooms allow for collaboration across the country and around the world.

Program graduates will be prepared to enter the workforce as entry-level engineers, with sought after skills in M&S and analytics. Our graduates are enjoying careers with NASA, Huntington Ingalls, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and other industry and military contractors. In addition, our graduates have gone on to pursue graduate study in M&S and other engineering disciplines, computer science, medical school, as well as, seek certification as Certified Modeling and Simulation Professionals (CMSP) and licensure as an Engineer in Training (EIT).

We invite you to visit our campus, meet with our faculty and students, and tour our facilities.
