Job Description The Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for the position of associate in simulation. The position is responsible for the development and evaluation of mechanical and electrical systems, products, and components through extensive knowledge of engineering, electronics and mechanics. It is responsible for designing test parameters to confirm system and/or component capabilities as well as preparing and delivering product analysis reports in a timely manner.
The successful candidate will utilize critical thinking skills to diagnose, analyze and troubleshoot hardware and software and contribute to a collaborative team process, accomplishing tasks independently as well as in a group.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of circuit terminology and symbols.
• Knowledge of UAS/UAV terminology, maintenance and operation.
• Knowledge of computer languages including C and C-based languages.
• Extensive knowledge of Arduino and IoT devices.
• Knowledge of serial communication concepts.
• Ability to document assembly process accurately, recording any required deviations from plan to facilitate the improvement of manufacturing work instruction.
• Ability to assist with the testing of prototype products and providing information to validation teams.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
Position Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Modeling and Simulation, Systems Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution and three years of related professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and five years of related professional experience.
Preferences We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in the following areas:
• Use of test equipment (e.g., data acquisition systems, meters, oscilloscopes, etc.), in hardware integration, testing, data processing/formatting/recording equipment, and analysis of test results.
• Design and development of 3D models for printing and prototyping (e.g., Inventor, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, TinkerCAD, Cura, Slic3r).
• Assembly of prototype products following 3D prints.
• Circuit board design and evaluation programs (e.g., Eagle).
• Advanced soldering techniques including SMT soldering.
• Operation of both prototype and manufacturing scale equipment to allow for the creation of prototype parts across various stages of the product development cycle.
• Use of power tools necessary for prototyping and manufacturing (e.g., table saw, drill, mill, dremel, lathe).
Special Conditions U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance is required due to job location.
This is a full-time, 12-month position supported by contracts and grants funding (C&G) and is contingent upon available funding.
