Job Description:

The Prodigy Lab at the Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) and the School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invite applications for the position of research associate. Candidates should possess a background in instructional systems design, instructional technologies, assessment activities, and analysis of training effectiveness. These experiences are necessary for candidates to support existing research and future projects dealing with training task mastery when using standalone and collaborative simulations in conjunction with other live, virtual, and constructive training situations. Physiological measures experience is valued. Candidates participate in research methods, experimental design, statistics, administration, monitoring of assessment activities, analysis, evaluation, and data gathered during research to ensure compliance of protocols and overall research objectives. Candidates should be able to display a strong foundation in assessments with appropriate writing and verbal communication skills to report results and communicate with sponsors and peers. The selected candidate will be required to manage multiple research projects concurrently and should demonstrate the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor graduate students and guide them in their research. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Supporting concurrent projects efficiently to meet deliverable deadlines.

• Interacting with an interdisciplinary team of human factors psychologists, industrial engineers, computer scientists, instructional designers, and modeling and simulation experts.

• Supporting program demonstrations, workshops, and integration assessments.

• Analyzing and integrating training concepts, strategies, and elements of training and logistic support required to operate, maintain, and support live, virtual, and constructive training systems and projects for the customers of the IST Prodigy Lab.

• Assisting the IST Prodigy Lab cadre in the development, instruction, and conduct of projects and programs as required.

• Participating in information and planning meetings; communicating with Joint and Services training centers and school representatives; and developing or providing input to briefings and reports.

• Supporting the development and maintenance of specific plans and reports to include manpower, personnel and training (MPT) analyses and plans; training system effectiveness evaluations (TEE); instructional design and instructional materials development assessments; new equipment training and instructor key personnel training; and front end analysis (FEA).

• Supporting IST’s Prodigy Lab with training goals based on research, needs assessment, and analysis; assuring the training design complies with and meets requirements; establishing and maintaining training metrics to evaluate effectiveness of learning outcomes; and supporting the capture of new and follow-up training opportunities.

• Supporting project Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings and develop verification and validation (V&V) plan and reports.

Assigned Tasks:

• Support IST’s Prodigy Lab with exercises and collaboration for various program development.

• Assist in the training and instructional materials, selection and development of training sites, and act as an observer-controller during specified exercises.

• Support IST’s Prodigy Lab through development of curricula and media, exercise design and execution, creation of POI for new courses, participation in Course Content Review Boards (CCRB). This effort is critical to provide advanced and standardized training in Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Operations and Combined Arms Training at the Battalion level as well as MAGTF planning.

• Support IST’s Prodigy Lab with producing products and instruction that are aligned with USMC, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and Joint doctrines promulgated by the Marine Corps Training and Education Command, the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and Naval Fleet Forces Command respectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Instructional Design, Education, Training Program Development, or Psychology, and ten years related professional experience.

U.S. citizenship with an active secret clearance is required due to the nature of research required. TS/SCI eligible required.

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities required include:

• Understanding of the importance of United States Armed Forces Interoperability, Interdependence.

• Familiarity with operational coordination and program management.

• Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office.

• Strong communication and presentation skills.

• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Terminal degree from an accredited institution in Education is preferred (Ph.D. or Ed.D.).

• Experience with U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and USMC Combined Arms Training is preferred.

• Experience in United States Armed Forces team/platoon/company/squadron/ branch/department level leadership is desired.

• Expertise in coordinating functional and warfighting area of Joint and Services doctrine is desired.

• Military instructor certification or instructor experience preferred.

• Military curriculum developer certification or experience is preferred.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a full-time position supported by contracts and grants funding (C&G) and is contingent upon available funding.

Tasking is to be completed primarily at the IST Prodigy Lab.

Travel will be required up to 25%.
