Job Description The University of Central Florida’s (UCF) School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) invites applications for a research assistant professor position in the areas of computational social simulation, social media analytics, machine learning, and social network analysis. The selected candidate will contribute to a multi-year, multi-institution team project to advance understanding and practice of online social simulation. Located at the UCF SMST, the position requires the ability to conduct independent research, lead research teams, publish academic manuscripts, develop grant proposals, and administer projects. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Job responsibilities include:
1. Conducting and publishing scholarly research in the areas of this position.
2. Developing and executing research plans for existing projects and for new projects.
3. Developing grant proposals under the direction of a principal investigator.
4. Engaging team members in research collaboration and support project administration.
Position Minimum Qualifications Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, statistics, information systems, computational social sciences, computational simulation, modeling and simulation (M&S), or a closely related discipline. One or more journal publications in relevant areas. Candidates within six months of Ph.D. graduation will be considered, however, Ph.D. must be completed by the start of the appointment.
Preferences 1. Experience in leading and administering externally-funded research projects.
2. Demonstrated record of high-quality, peer-reviewed academic publications.
3. Excellent knowledge and skills in social network analysis, machine learning, and simulation.
4. Experience in developing research grant proposals.
5. Effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
6. Experience and proficiency in computer programming and in Linux systems administration.
7. Strong knowledge in social and behavioral disciplines.
Special Conditions Legal authorization to be employed full-time in the United States for the duration of the position is required.
This is a 12-month, full-time position supported by contracts and grants funding (C&G) and is contingent upon available funding.
