NCS Launches Medical Sim Special Interest Group

Date: September 25, 2009 (All day)
Location: Orlando, FL

September 29, 2009. Orlando, Florida. The Orlando based National Center for Simulation (NCS) announced today the establishment of a special interest group (SIG) focused on medical modeling and simulation. The group will bring a wide range of medical modeling and simulation and related technology expertise together to collaborate on the development of solutions addressing the growing requirement for medical education, training and the continuum of care.

With the establishment of this special interest group, NCS will connect its already world-renowned simulation industry cluster to the medical community and Orlando's emerging 'Medical City,' which includes the College of Medicine at UCF, the Burnham Institute and the new VA and Nemours hospitals.

The Medical Simulation SIG will join military, university and industry partners in a cooperative environment to develop a five year road-map, focus on new business and technology growth, and create the ground-breaking simulation solutions that will contribute to medical research, patient safety and the advancement of health care.

"Central Florida is rapidly developing as a leader in medical modeling and simulation," said Russ Hauck, Executive Director of NCS. "Our interest is in promoting innovation, communications and collaboration across organizational lines to further solidify that leadership position for our community." He added that there is already great momentum in the area within Orlando's bio-med community, led by the Economic Development Commission and Bio Orlando. "This is a team effort that will only be successful if we work together with these and other community leaders and partners." he concluded.

The leadership team will meet with its advisory council during the month of October and launch the first membership meeting in November. Individuals or organizations interested in membership can visit the NCS website at www.simulationinformation.com for more information.

The National Center for Simulation (NCS) was formed in 1993 as the link among the defense industry, government, and academia on behalf of the entire simulation, training, and modeling community. Its mission is to facilitate networking among its growing local, national, and international membership and potential partners and customers in government, industry, education, and commerce. NCS is headquartered in Orlando, Florida – home to Team Orlando including more than 180 modeling, simulation and training companies, the University of Central Florida, and the primary DoD military simulation and training commands (www.teamorlando.org)
