On Tuesday, 15 November, Crooms Academy of Information Technology in Sanford, Florida will be having their " Teach-in" Day and need industry, government and academia help in making the event a success. Teach-in's are very rewarding experiences for the participants and students. You can talk about your work, hobbies or pass on helpful career information.These students need role models. Please consider it.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the attached form. The Teach-in doesn't take a lot of time and you will be the richer for the experience.

NCS HOSTS M&S WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS
On 8 September 2011, NCS hosted a “ground-breaking” workshop for thirty science and mathematics teachers from Orange and Seminole Counties. The workshop was the product of the NCS Education and Workforce Development Committee, chaired by Hank Okraski, and was carefully planned for the past several months. It required support from the school district administrators, industry, academia and government. (The workshop agenda and power point presentations are attached.)

Air Force Themed Charter School for Central Florida--A Concept
Jerry Waller, Director, Eagle Aerospace Military Academy briefed his concept for an Air Force Themed Charter School for Central Florida (grades 6 through 12) to the NCS Education & Workforce Development Committee on 18 May. Response from the committee was very positive. The challenge now is to locate and secure funding that will make the concept a reality. Florida Summer Industrial Fellowships for Teachers
Florida SIFT, Inc., was incorporated in November 1990 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization for the purpose of providing summer work experiences for teachers K - 12, especially for those teaching math, science, and computer technology. The goal now is to enhance awareness, knowledge and motivation for classroom teachers in all disciplines through placement in summer jobs regardless of the level of technology or science requirement. SIFT’s role is to provide the positions with industry, government or other organizations/institutions, recruit teachers with the requisite skills to perform the jobs, and to encourage the transfer of this practical experience into the classroom to benefit today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce. WCF Announces Summer Employment Program for Young Adults
WCF Announces Summer Employment Program for Young Adults
Are you looking for summer work? WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA (WCF) will offer its Summer Job Connection program again in 2011, an employment program that will provide valuable summer work experience in local jobs for young adults ages 16-21.
Participants will earn $8.25 an hour and work 35 hours a week for six to 12 weeks with nonprofits, government agencies and targeted private sector employers.
WCF is searching for young adults ages 16-21 who live in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake or Sumter Counties who are economically disadvantaged. To qualify, youth must be must be 16 years old by April 4, 2011 and cannot be past the age of 21 before June 27, 2011.
Interested individuals must visit www.WorkforceCentralFlorida.com/SummerWork and complete the online application (no hard copy applications will be accepted). Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until enrollment goals are met.

FHTCC’s techPATH Engages Sebring Students
FHTCC’s techPATH Engages Sebring Students for First Math & Physics Day Held in Highlands County
With the huge demand for high-skilled, knowledge and technology jobs in this current economy, there is a critical need to provide a strong foundation in math and science for future generations. Florida High Tech Corridor Council’s workforce initiative, techPATH, has focused its efforts on showcasing the importance of math and science through special programs in partnership with Corridor schools. Last month, techPATH hosted a Math & Physics Day workshop with South Florida Community College (SFCC) for Sebring Middle School students—the first such program held in Highlands County. President Norm Stephens graciously hosted the program on SFCC's campus and kicked off the presentations for the students. Through hands-on science experiments and simulation demonstrations, more than 30 students learned about the importance of science education and about the kinds of careers available in high tech fields.
