
Roger Smith, Ph.D.
Dr. Roger Smith is the Chief Technology Officer for Florida Hospital's Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement where he is leading a team of researchers in applying simulation, robotic, and communication technologies to surgical education. He led the capture for a $4.2 million Congressional grant for medical research. He initiated the accreditation process for the Center’s education program, managed the creation of a 3D virtual world of the Nicholson Center, integrated mobile robots into the business practice, and is providing technical guidance for the iPad and web experiences of the business.
He was previously the CTO for the U.S. Army PEO for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) and a Research Scientist for Texas A&M University. He serves as a Graduate Faculty Scholar at the University of Central Florida and is President of Modelbenders LLC. He has worked for a number of defense simulation, software, and aerospace firms in Orlando’s Research Park, the Washington DC beltway, and the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
He has been a very active member of the simulation profession for over 20 years, publishing over 150 technical and management papers and developing four commercial courses on simulation technologies and applications. Dr. Smith holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, M.S. in Statistics, Master’s and Doctorate in Business Administration, and Ph.D. in Computer Science.
